The donkey sanctuary invites you to a holiday with a difference

It is not too late to book your place for the 29th annual International Donkey Week. Organised by animal welfare charity The Donkey Sanctuary, this popular and unique holiday in Devon takes place between 3 – 10 May

International Donkey Week truly is a holiday with a difference and a meaningful way of supporting the charity. You are invited to join an exclusive, hands-on holiday among donkeys and like-minded people, with behind the scenes visits to Sanctuary farms across Devon and Dorset that are not normally open to the public, a whole host of walks and talks, and of course, contact with the resident donkeys in glorious surroundings.

Dawn Vincent, Communications Manager for The Donkey Sanctuary says:

"International Donkey Week has come a long way since Dr Elisabeth Svendsen, founder of The Donkey Sanctuary, first had the idea put together a holiday for people with a shared interest in donkeys back in 1983. 120 people joined us for the first ever International Donkey Week, and last year we had more than 350 ‘Donkey Weekers’. We want to make this year the biggest and best ever, and invite as many people as possible to meet some of our resident donkeys and find out more about what The Donkey Sanctuary does to protect and promote donkey welfare both here and overseas.

"The scope of our work has changed a great deal since 1983. We are committed to working in 29 countries worldwide and have established major overseas projects to help working donkeys in Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Kenya and Mexico."

To help the holiday go as smoothly as possible, The Donkey Sanctuary has teamed up with local accommodation providers and will supply transport to and from Donkey Week locations throughout the holiday.
