Catch up with our Border Collie Rescue puppy Treacle
Dear Readers,
It only seems the other day I was writing this section and here I am again reporting on our rescue puppy Treacle who as regular readers will know I adopted from The Border Collie Trust. Our rescue dog is indeed a lucky very mucky puppy having been very poorly in her early months and saved by the Small Animal Hospital in Newmarket, Suffolk. On the opposite page you can see Pepper who is currently with The Border Collie Trust and she looks absolutely lovely so fingers crossed one of our readers will consider fostering her.
Fathers’ day has now been and gone and Treacle managed to get her nose in and also benefit from this event even though she’s a girl and not even a parent. Our 3 little messy kids very kindly made breakfast in bed for their dad (thank goodness they didn’t set the house on fire) and cooked for the first time having previously watched me cook, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, toast, tomatoes served with fresh coffee. Having woken us from a deep sleep and thrusting trays under our noses, they watched us eat every cold mouthful. In the cooking mayhem the kids reported that no they hadn’t cleared up the massive amount of utensils (guess who did?) and that Treacle had yet again stolen not just another pack of butter but several slices of toast and bacon (hopefully not off my plate ) and ate it in her bed in the kitchen.
Treacle has the most beautiful tail and I love brushing it. She thinks this is a game so she tries to eat the brush whilst being groomed.
The trouble is, when she does her business, it is so long and bushy(her tail I mean) that it sometimes gets a bit of ‘you know what’ on it, and she really can’t help it, so out comes a soapy shampoo sponge which she also attempts to eat.
Another very annoying game is her repetitive ball dropping habit. In the loo, waste paper bin, kitchen sink, table, you name it. After each carefully considered placement Treacle then barks until your nerves are so bad you have to throw the ball for her again. We have tried to hide it but somehow after much sniffing there it is again in her mouth.
Treacle has just celebrated her first birthday. Doesn’t she look fetching in her fancy collar!
I hope you enjoy this issue of Rescue and Animal Care www.rescueapet.co.uk and see you in August
