New Vet Exclusive Diets:

If you have a rabbit that needs a trip to the vet, the good news is that vets now have an exclusive new diet designed specially to support recuperating rabbits following illness or operation. The VetCarePlus range of Monoforage® diets are creating a real buzz with rabbit experts because they offer such a high percentage of long fibre in a single format diet (from 28% to 34% fibre). Their weight to volume ratio is unique, offering bulk that’s high in fibre but without starch-based ingredients such as wheat or gluten. This level of fibre gives excellent dental wear as well. Feedback to the new diets from rabbit specialists has been excellent and response amongst the rabbit welfare community has also been very positive: Claire Hamblion from Supreme Petfoods explains. “VetCarePlus is exactly what convalescing rabbits need. It helps solve selective feeding and its excellent level of fibre ensures a good slow chew rate that is really beneficial”.

Keep it Cool in Summer Heat

With heatwaves that fit into weekends followed by flash floods and sudden cold snaps, it’s easy to be caught out by summer weather. Small animal owners must be alert to the problems that extremes of weather can pose to pets. Whether kept inside or out, make sure hutches or cages are not in direct sunshine. Provide shade, plenty of fresh, clean water and ensure adequate ventilation. If there is a long hot spell, thorough daily hutch clean outs are vital to ensure soiled bedding or discarded food is removed before bacteria begins to build up.
