A Record Breaking Dogs’ Day Out?
On Sunday 18 September Burns Pet Nutrition will be holding their fourth annual Dogs’ Day Out in Pembrey Country Park, Carmarthenshire. Each year this day of fun for dogs and their families offers visitors something new and 2011 gives them the chance to become world record breakers.
With the help of “Dog Borstal’s” Lynne Davies, the organisers hope to get more than 300 dogs and handlers to participate in a short obedience class. Event organiser Rowan Flindall said “It is not going to be complicated. As long as your dog will sit and lie down on command and is comfortable working in close proximity to other dogs you will fit in nicely. Once the record has been confirmed by the governing body participants will be able to download a commemorative certificate to prove they are record breakers.”
As well as the fun dog show judged by RobertAlleynefromBBC’s“DogBorstal”, lots have-a-go activities, main arena displays and a wide range of stalls, the new sport of TD Rally will be making its first appearance in Wales. This simple, fun form of obedience is accessible to dogs and handlers of all ages and abilities and is rapidly growing in popularity. There is even a 2.5km Dog Jog which visitors can run or walk and for which every participant, whether canine or human, will receive a medal.
“Dogs’ Day Out aims to promote responsible pet ownership and encourage families to try new activities with their dogs. Four years ago we started out with the idea of having a little dog show to raise money for animal welfare charities. We still raise money for charity but Dogs’ Day Out has definitely become the biggest little dog show in Wales!”
Located just a few miles from Burns’ head office in the historic town of Kidwelly, Pembrey Country Park is a wonderfully dog friendly venue and is adjacent to the eight mile long golden sands of Cefn Sidan beach and 2000 hectare Pembrey Forest. The event has become so popular that visitors come from all over UK and make Dogs’ Day Out part of a holiday in Carmarthenshire so they can enjoy all the area has to offer.
