International animal welfare charity The Donkey Sanctuary is busy preparing for a sponsored trek to the Indian Himalayas this May and is hoping the New Year will entice more volunteers to take part in the challenge.

India is one of 29 project countries The Donkey Sanctuary operates in and the trek, which has a minimum sponsorship of £2,500, will help fund its work overseas to alleviate the suffering of sick and injured working donkeys.

Volunteers who take part in the 14 day trip will enjoy a five day trek in the spectacular Dhauladhar range, and will also be taken to a wild ass sanctuary and invited to see how their donations could be spent by visiting the Sanctuary’s clinic and mobile team based at Ahmedabad.

Dawn Vincent who has worked at the Sanctuary for over 14 years says: “If you love to help animals, enjoy meeting new people and experiencing different cultures, this could be the New Year resolution you have been looking for.

“Having seen our work first hand in Ethiopia and Egypt, I can speak from experience that being able to end your trip with a visit to see our staff helping very sick donkeys is quite humbling and will help make your efforts incredibly worthwhile.”

The Donkey Sanctuary has organised the trek from 14th to 27th May 2011 with World Expeditions who specialise in charity challenge experiences. The minimum sponsorship target includes return flights from London to Delhi, transfers, accommodation, a doctor, all meals and will help raise a large amount for charity.
