Stir up some support with a Tea Party for pets in need

Ready, steady, cake! It’s time to get baking and join in with the afternoon tea craze that’s been sweeping the country, as The Blue Cross animal charity calls on animals lovers everywhere to hold a Tea Party during the month of April to help raise money for the sick and homeless pets in their care.
Holding your party is as easy as one, two, tea! Just register at www.bluecrossteaparty.org.uk and download your 2011 Tea Party Host Pack. Next, bake up some ‘tea-licious treats’ (there are some yummy recipe ideas from Blue Cross staff members in the host pack to get you started) and invite friends, family or colleagues to make a donation in exchange for tea and cakes.
You might like to have a theme for your event – maybe a mad hatter’s tea party, a teddy bears’ picnic or you could even invite your friends over for tea and cake while watching the royal wedding! No matter how big or small your Tea Party, every penny counts – just £15 will pay for the care of a dog for one week at a Blue Cross adoption centre. So if you’re passionate about pets, it’s time to get organising. And if you can’t fit your tea party into April, just pick another time that works for you.
Lucy Hope from Oxford held a tea party at her school last year with a little help from her friends: “I had a Tea Party at my school and raised a total of £117.64. Me and my friends made cakes to sell and we took our dog Tallulah, to the Tea Party. We are really happy to be raising money for animals in need.”
The money raised at Lucy’s tea party went towards helping animals like Tyler, a dog who unfortunately found himself homeless in his twilight years when his owner became too ill to look after him. Happily, Tyler was taken to The Blue Cross where he won the heart of a potential adopter and is now doing really well in his new home.
The Blue Cross receives no government funding and relies on the generous support of the public with events like the Tea Party to continue its vital work. Register today to make a difference to animals in need.
